When it comes to your plumbing and industry infrastructure, few items are as important as a good valve. Without one, water and other precious liquids will not be able to move through your pipes. And with so many options available out there, it is very important that you pick the right valve, otherwise you risk running into some problems. Let us tell you about some of the best valves for residential and commercial purposes and why you should purchase them from ASJ Industrial Hose & Fitting.
Common valve types
Using a valve is fairly common can be a smart move. Finding replacements or repairs will be easier, for example, not to mention cheaper. Below are some multi-turn valves that are easy to find:
- Gate valves: This type of valve is closed off by a flat face, vertical disc, even a gate that slides down through the valve to block the flow of liquids. Gate valves are great for faucets and other purposes that benefit from a quick and reliable on-off function without throttling.
- Globe valves: Also great for on-off purposes, globe valves are different in that they can handle throttling. This type of valve is closed off by a plug that blocks flow and circulation.
- Pinch valves: Pinch valves are exactly what they sound like –– they shut off flow by pinching down, making them perfect if you’re dealing with suspended solids.
- Needle valves: This type of valve restricts flow in small lines.
Rotary valves
There are also rotary –– also known as quarter turn –– valves that, as the name implies, rotate in order to effect their purpose.
- Butterfly valves: Also fairly common, butterfly valves get their name from their shape. It uses a circular disc or vane with its pivot axis at right angles to steer the direction of flow in a pipe.
- Ball valves: Used for on-off throttling purposes, ball valves use a rotating ball with a hole in the middle that allows it to pass liquids when set in the open position and shut off flow when the ball is rotated 90 degrees to block off passage.
- Plug valves: Similar to ball valves, plug valves use a cylindrical or tapered plug with a hole in the center that lines up with the flow path of the valve to allow liquids to pass through.
